How To Make Wedding Chair Covers?

Weddings are a special time in our lives, and so much planning goes into them. We must think of so many details from the color of bridesmaids’ dresses, DJ song list, and how our chairs will look. We certainly don’t want ugly plastic chairs at our reception. Luckily, we can cut down on expenses and show our creative side by making our own wedding chair covers!

How to Make Wedding Chair Covers?

Size up the Chair

Before we can decorate our chairs, we need to accurately measure how tall or wide the chairs are. With an idea of size, we have a good idea of how much material we will need. One thing we want to avoid is chairs with a much shorter drape than others.

Pick The Material

Since this is a wedding, we can always stick with plain white sheets. However, we can also get fancy and buy lace or patterned sheets. If there is a color theme to the wedding, we may want the chair covers to match.

Once we have a headcount of the guests, ensure there is a sheet for each chair. If we want to add a special flair, we should gather any materials or ornaments we intend to add over the main drape.

Start Draping

Drape a sheet over the chair and make sure the chair is covered until the floor. A sheet with end patterns like lace or ruffles will look extra decorative.

Hold it Together

Once we have the drape in place, we must hold it together. We can hold the shape through safety pins or by sewing it down the back. Make sure the fit is tight so that guests are not sliding around in their seats.

Put a Bow On It

For true wedding elegance, tie a nice bow around each chair. Wrap a ribbon around the chair’s base and tie a large bow in the back. Make the bow as centered as possible.

Get Scissor Happy

Now that we have the main fabric fitted over the chairs take some sharp scissors and do the necessary trimming.

Let’s Go Crazy

So, now that we have some basic wedding chairs, we can really have some fun with the covers. If there are a few more dollars left in the budget, we can try some more quirky or sophisticated ideas so that wedding guests can sit in style.

  1. Tuck a fake flower into the center of each bow. Sunflowers are particularly gorgeous.
  2. Instead of plain material, use lace or textured pattern for the bow.
  3. Attach a wreath to the back of the chair.
  4. String pearls or shiny beads over the chair in place of a bow. You may also arrange a string of pearls to hold the fabric together in a knot.
  5. Repurpose wood slab hangings and place them on the back. Have some fun and paint the names of the bride and groom. Better yet, have guest names monogrammed on them. This idea is way cuter than a typical place setting and can double as a memorable wedding gift.
