What Is The Weather Like in Mauritius?

The second half of May and the month of October are ideal for traveling to Mauritius’ main island.

During the winter in the Southern Hemisphere (June – September), the weather may get somewhat cool and cloudy, and there may be a few short showers. During this time, it is easier to go hiking or explore the island’s various attractions.

Given that the wind blows from the southeast, it is recommended to swim and sunbathe on a beach along the north-west coast, on the same side as Port Louis, which is more protected and sunny (but not in the northernmost tip, which is windy as well). On the other hand, surfers will love the wind that blows during this time.

In the summer, in December, the weather is hot and the plants are in bloom. The air is humid and the rainy season has already started, but there is still enough sunshine. Cyclone season starts in November, which is a threat to be aware of even though cyclones rarely hit the same place twice.

Between the months of January and March, not only are there many rainstorms, but the air is also quite humid, making the heat seem much more uncomfortable.

What should you pack for your trip?

In the winter (June to August), pack light clothing, a sweatshirt or sweater, a light evening jacket, a scarf for the wind, and a raincoat. You can bring snorkeling gear with you when you go to the reef, including water shoes or shoes with rubber soles.

During the summer months (December – February), pack clothing that is appropriate for the tropics but has a loose fit, such as light shirts and pants made of natural fibers (cotton, linen), a light sweatshirt for the evening, and also a light raincoat or umbrella.
