How Much Does a Wedding in Morocco Cost?

Legal Requirements for Getting Married in Morocco

You must first obtain a document proving your legal capacity to marry. Regardless of your nationality, this document is necessary. In order to receive it, you are need to submit a number of papers to your consulate in Morocco, including the following:

  • A written application addressed to the family judge containing your identity information and request’s subject.
  • Your criminal record.
  • Proof of residence such as bills.
  • A complete copy of your birth certificate.
  • Proof of citizenship.
  • Copies of your passport.
  • 4 passport size photos.
  • Proof of address or proof of accommodation may be requested.
  • Signed doctor’s statement of good health (costs about a 100 Dh or $10).

When applying for a marriage license, you will also need to provide the following documents:

  • Valid passport and a passport size photo.
  • A Certificate of No Impediment (CNI).
  • Birth certificate.
  • Residence certificate.
  • If you have already been married, provide the relevant documentation to demonstrate that you are either divorced or widowed.
  • Name change document – generally all names on all documents need to match (including your parents’ names), otherwise proof of name change needs to be shown.
  • Medical check (certificat prenuptial).

Often the procedure for the marriage license takes as long as 2 months.

Other legal requirements are:

  • To apply for a marriage license, one must be at least 18 years old.
  • 2 witnesses are required.
  • There is no restriction for foreign people marrying in Morocco, provided that they are in the country legally and get the proper marriage license.
  • All international paperwork has to be translated into Arabic by an official translator.
  • Take note that women do not have to be Muslim to marry a Moroccan man, but men do have to be Muslim to marry a Moroccan woman, thus men have to convert or marry outside of the country. Muslim men can marry Christians and Jewish women.

Before making any wedding or travel preparations, make sure you have all the paperwork needed for your marriage to be recognized in your home country by checking with the local county clerk or marriage official where you intend to marry.

What you need to have in your possession before leaving the country is a legal document that can confirm that your marriage is legitimate and has been registered – the marriage certificate.

It is advised that you seek more information from your consulate or embassy as well as with the Moroccan authorities as the procedures vary greatly depending on your nationality.

Perhaps a good idea prior to starting the process would be to contact an adoul –  the person who reviews, approves, and submits all of your documentation to the judge.

What Is The Weather Like in Morocco?

If you want to visit the imperial towns of Morocco but want to avoid visiting during the hottest parts of the year, the best times to go are in the spring and fall, namely in March and April, and from the beginning of October to the middle of November. There is a possibility of cool nights and warm days, but on the whole, the climate is agreeable, and the sun shines on the majority of the days, despite the occasional rain.

Between the months of July and September, you may enjoy a beach vacation on the Atlantic coast, and in July and August, you can do the same on the Mediterranean coast. As was previously noted, the waters of the Atlantic Ocean remain cold even throughout the summer, particularly in the southern part. In addition, fogs and mists may occur in the morning along the shore.

What should you pack for your trip?

Bring clothing appropriate for spring and fall, a jacket and sweater, as well as a raincoat or umbrella if you want to visit the Mediterranean or Atlantic coasts during the winter.
